Head of School Message - December 12th

Dear Parents,

As I reflect on the first semester of this school year, I am struck by the power of our ISHCMC community. Through the contributions of many people and by working together, we have created opportunities for our students to grow, for their talent to be showcased, for their achievements to be celebrated, and for growth in ISHCMC spirit and our commitment to service.

Over the semester, we celebrated our students' high levels of participation and achievement in sports over Season 1.  In primary school, 208 students, and in secondary school, 222 students participated in sports teams. With multiple opportunities for students to grow as athletes, our Rhinos have brought home numerous championship wins for Season One, including

  • 1st place in SISAC Football for  U11 Girls A

  • 1st place in SISAC U11 Boys C

  • 1st place in SISAC U9 Girls A

  • 1st place in SISAC Secondary Cross Country

  • 1st place in SISAC U19 Boys Volleyball

  • 1st place SISAC U15 Girls Basketball

  • 1st place SISAC Swim Championship

  • With a further 9 teams coming in 2nd and 3rd places

At the ASAC conferences, our JR Girls' Basketball team placed 1st while our SR Boys' Volleyball team, SR Girls' Volleyball team, and JR Boys' Basketball teams earned second-place finishes.  I am delighted that our our sports and aquatics programmes are thriving and our students engaging in many of the offered opportunities.  I am grateful for the dedication of our teachers who coach our teams, and thank you, our parents, for encouraging and supporting your children to be active.

Over the last two weeks, we have also had the privilege of watching our young artists take to the stage to share their talent and growth. Over two days, performances from our primary school IPAA students filled the MPR with joy, and two evenings of performances from our Grade 5-12 students filled our theatre with happiness.  This was followed by the end-of-semester Secondary Music Showcase, where our musicians in Grades 9-12 who are involved in our co-curricular programmes, including the High School Choir, High School  String Quartet, and rock band, shared their talent along with some Duets and Solos from our Grade 11 and 12 musicians. All of these opportunities enabled our students to further develop their confidence and self-expression and experience the joy and satisfaction of performing for an audience

I am particularly proud of the time, energy and commitment of our outstanding teachers and administrative teams, who have created meaningful outdoor education experiences for our students. From our Grade 3 camp last week to the Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 camps this week, exceptional experiences have enabled students to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings and helped our students develop essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and resilience.  We are committed to outdoor education as studies have found that students who participate in outdoor education programmes tend to have higher academic success, improved problem-solving skills, and increased motivation to learn.

The Festive Bazaar was an incredible example of the power of our ISHCMC community.  The Festive Bazaar, in celebration of the holiday spirit, is an annual event that gets bigger every year. It was heartwarming to see over 2000 students, parents, staff and the extended HCMC community come together, creating memories and supporting one another through the various activities, over 120 stalls, and performances. The mixture of vendors, food, games, Santa’s Grotto, scavenger hunts, and raffles with great prizes made for a great mix of activities that suited all family members.  Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, creativity, and energy to make it a memorable event and supported the raffle, which resulted in 50 million VND being raised for our partner Anh Chi Em.

The launching of our formal partnership with Anh Chi Em has been a highlight of the semester along with the official signing of our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to continue our partnership with the Dutch School into the future.

As we head into the winter break, we are excited by the work planned to continue the renovation and upgrade of our campuses and look forward to celebrating this with you in the New Year at an Opening Ceremony on the 09th January 2025.

For now, I wish everyone a peaceful, safe, and joy-filled holiday season.

In kindness and service,

Kim Green, Head of School
