ISHCMC Hosts Groundbreaking SENIA International Asia 2024 Conference: Fostering a More Inclusive Future in Education


Last week, the International School Ho Chi Minh City (ISHCMC) had the privilege of hosting the SENIA International Asia Conference, "Designing for Inclusion." This landmark event, the largest SENIA conference ever held, brought together over 430 educators from 36 countries to share their expertise and experiences in fostering inclusive education practices.


Throughout the conference, we witnessed SENIA, the Special Education Network and Inclusion Association, champion its core mission of connection, knowledge exchange, and advocacy for inclusion. Attendees actively engaged in thought-provoking discussions, exploring the critical role of inclusive design in education. These collaborative dialogues empowered educators to discover innovative approaches for creating learning environments that cater to the diverse needs of all students.


The impact of #SENIA2024 was undeniable, highlighting the unwavering dedication of educators worldwide and emphasizing the paramount importance of inclusive practices in education. We at ISHCMC are incredibly proud to have been a part of this impactful event and remain committed to advancing SENIA's mission. We look forward to a future where inclusivity thrives for every individual.

  1. ISHCMC proudly hosted the largest SENIA conference ever held, welcoming over 430 educators from 35 countries.

  2. The conference featured a diverse range of perspectives, with 60 speakers, 7 exhibitors, and representation from 5 continents.

  3. Attendees explored various themes, including:


  • Designing Equitable Spaces: Focused on creating equitable spaces within an international education context, fostering a sense of belonging, and building intercultural and interlinguistic competence.

  • Designing Holistic Practices: Addressed approaches to support students' development, including experiential learning, trauma-informed practices, and culturally sensitive teaching practices.

  • Designing for Student Agency: Explored strategies to empower students, cultivate self-awareness, and develop effective communication and advocacy skills.


4. Renowned keynote speakers, including Jessica Wei Huang and Patricia Moore, shared valuable insights and practical strategies for building inclusive school communities.
