ISHCMC Students Outperform US and International Students in Spring MAP Assessments

The Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments are a valuable tool to support your child's learning journey. They are computer-adaptive tests designed to measure student progress and growth. The MAP assessment tool is one form of assessment we use at ISHCMC to ensure our students are growing and achieving in key academic areas such as reading, mathematics, and language usage.

This assessment enables us to:

Personalize Learning: MAP assessments provide our teachers with detailed insights into each child’s strengths and areas for growth in reading, language use and mathematics. The information also allows teachers to tailor instruction to meet the unique needs of each student, ensuring that they are challenged and supported at the appropriate level.

Student Growth Tracking: MAP assessments are administered twice yearly (September / May), allowing us to monitor student progress over time. This enables us to identify trends and adjust instructional strategies as needed, ensuring that each child is progressing steadily towards their learning goals.

Data-Driven Decision Making: The data generated by MAP assessments inform our decision-making at all levels, from individual student instruction to school-wide curriculum planning. Using data to guide our practices, we can ensure that we provide your child with the most effective and impactful learning experiences.

Benchmarking: MAP assessments provide us with a standardised measure of student achievement. This allows us to compare your child's performance to international norms and identify areas where additional support or enrichment may be beneficial. The international norms we use to benchmark include all schools that have undertaken the MAP assessments in the United States of America, all International Schools, all Vietnam schools, and all schools that are part of the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS).

MAP Assessments Benefit Your Child

We are currently completing the first cycle of MAP assessments at ISHCMC. These assessments directly benefit your child through

  • Targeted Instruction: MAP assessments help us identify your child's specific learning needs, allowing us to provide them with targeted instruction and support.

  • Growth Mindset: MAP assessments focus on progress and growth, encouraging your child to embrace a growth mindset and see learning as a continuous journey.

  • Personalized Learning Goals: By tracking your child's progress over time, we can work together to set personalized learning goals and monitor their progress towards achieving them. We are confident that MAP assessments will be a valuable tool in helping us to unlock your child's full learning potential.  We will soon release results for the most recent MAP testing. Our Secondary School and Primary School Vice Principals look forward to helping you better understand your child’s results at the upcoming parent workshop “Understanding your child’s MAP scores—Grade 3 to Grade 10” on Tuesday, 01 October 2024, at the Secondary School Campus MPR S318 from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m.
