Rhino Academy: Discovering new flavors and building new friendships

How can parents connect and build stronger relationships in the community? At ISHCMC, we create invaluable spaces where parents have the opportunity to build friendships and share their passions within the community. Last season, parents at Rhino Academy discovered the beauty of Middle Eastern cuisine.

Flavors of the Middle East

The first season of Rhino Academy was full of joy and new experiences. In addition to language classes, and sportsISHCMC parents had the opportunity to explore Middle Eastern cuisine with Ms. Michal, a passionate Israeli culinary enthusiast and mother of a Grade 9 student at ISHCMC. For nearly two months, Ms. Michal and four parents gathered weekly at ISHCMC after school hours to learn how to cook Middle Eastern dishes such as pocket pita, falafel, and the most well-known of all – kebab. These parents come from diverse countries, including Japan, Korea, Denmark, and Vietnam, and some may have never experienced Middle Eastern food before. By joining the course, they were introduced to a new culture in the most engaging way.

Middle Eastern cuisine is renowned for its rich and aromatic spices. Our parents learned about a variety of ingredients such as turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, cumin, coriander, and sumac, and how the combination of these spices can transform dishes into healthy, flavorful meals. Not only did they bring home the secret recipes for these delicious dishes, but they also formed lasting friendships with fellow community members.

Rhino Academy – Where Parents Explore and Connect

Rhino Academy was launched in February 2023. In almost two years of operation, we have had the privilege of working with amazing experts and meeting talented parents.  Our instructors, specialists in their fields, are both ISHCMC parents and external professionals. The classes cover a wide range of themes, from learning new languages to exploring hobbies such as sewing, cooking, and playing sports.

We believe that languages are bridges that help us understand different cultures; that’s why we continue to offer a multitude of language classes to help parents overcome barriers. We are proud to see the progress of our parents who have been learning in our Vietnamese and English classes since the very first day.

We also recognize that parents are eager to further their skills and knowledge in a variety of topics. That’s why, each season, we offer new classes designed to help parents discover new hobbies and connect with others who share similar passions.

Rhino Academy is not just about acquiring knowledge or skills. It’s about creating opportunities for parents to actively engage with the ISHCMC community, build connections with other parents, and experience the multicultural environment that shapes their children’s school life.

Rhino Academy will be back this month with a variety of new classes. Stay tuned for more updates!

At Rhino Academy, we always welcome parents to become our partners. If you are interested in becoming an instructor or have a business that offers courses for Season 3, please contact Ms. Mayu Murata, our Rhino Academy Facilitator, at mayumurata@ishcmc.edu.vn.
