Speaker Series for Parents: What Every Parent Needs To Know About Brain Development

Join us on Tuesday, September 5 for meaningful talk with Dr. Antony Schaffarczyk, the Director of Wellbeing and Safeguarding about brain development . This talk will explore the science and psychology of child development from 2 to 18, and will provide parents with practical tips on how to talk to and support their children at each stage of development - from the terrible two’s to your teenager who finds you embarrassing.

There will be two talks: one at Primary focusing on brain development from ages 2-11, and a talk at Secondary focusing on brain development from ages 12-18. Joining the talk allows you to gain deeper understanding of:

  • How brains change and what this means for how children learn: Children's brains are constantly changing and developing, which impacts how they learn. Parents can help their children by understanding what stage of development their children are in and supporting them appropriately.

  • The physical and psychological stages of child development: Children go through a series of physical and psychological stages as they grow up. For example, toddlers are naturally curious and love to explore, while teenagers are going through a lot of emotional changes that alter their actions and attitudes.

  • The best ways to play and to talk to your children at different ages: Play is essential for human development. It helps us learn, grow, and develop social skills. Parents can play and speak with their children in a variety of ways, depending on their age and interests.

  • Key life transitions, what they mean, and the challenges children and young people can experience: Children and young people go through a number of key life transitions, such as starting school, going through puberty, meeting new friends, and moving out of the home. These transitions can be challenging, but parents can help their children but expecting and planning for these transitions.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of your child's brain development and how you can support their growth and wellbeing.
