Why We Value Diversity in the International Baccalaureate

One of the main goals of International Baccalaureate (IB) schools is to create an inclusive and diverse environment. Students exposed to various cultures, backgrounds, religions, genders, beliefs and life experiences develop new ideas and perspectives, leading to more robust intercultural understanding and global citizenship. Diversity allows students to understand their culture and those around them better.

Diversity gives students a greater appreciation for other cultures and helps prepare them for future endeavors. It encourages students to think outside the box to solve problems and develop innovative solutions to real-life scenarios. Diversity is essential for international organizations that operate globally, as it helps create an atmosphere of open dialogue between different cultures and backgrounds.

This feeling of acceptance is significant for both local and expat students who may have difficulty adjusting to their new environment due to language barriers or cultural differences. Acknowledging the diversity in the classroom helps these students feel more comfortable with their peers and allows them to connect on a deeper level. This connection fosters learning, as students can learn from each other's experiences and knowledge.

Diversity in an IB setting can allow students to become better community citizens by promoting empathy. It enables students to understand societal issues better and encourages them to seek solutions to those challenges actively.
